City Service Changes for New Year’s Day Holiday
December 26, 2018
The City of Tallahassee’s administrative offices will be closed in observance of the New Year’s Day holiday on Monday, Dec. 31, 2018, and Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2019. Following are schedule changes for the week of December 30, 2018, to January 5, 2019, for solid waste customers living inside the Tallahassee city limits, StarMetro, the Animal Service Center and City-run community centers.
Due to a special meeting of the Tallahassee City Commission that will be held Monday, Dec. 31, at 4 p.m. in the City Commission Chambers on the second floor of City Hall, 300 South Adams Street, the building will be publicly accessible beginning at 8 a.m. The meeting is open to the public, will air live on WCOT (Comcast and CenturyLink channel 13) and will stream live on Talgov.com and Facebook.com/COTNews.
Solid Waste
During the holiday week, most residential customers will receive service one day later than their regularly scheduled service. This includes garbage / recycling and yard waste / bulky pickup, which will impact RED week customers:
- Monday customers ► No change
- Tuesday customers ► Wednesday, Jan. 2
- Wednesday customers ► Thursday, Jan. 3
- Thursday customers ► Friday, Jan. 4
- Friday customers ► Saturday, Jan. 5
To help prevent crime as the holiday season winds down, the City of Tallahassee has set up special cardboard-only receptacles in four community locations. The recycling receptacles are available through Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2019, and are located at the James Messer Sports Complex (2830 Jackson Bluff Road), Tom Brown Park (443 Easterwood Drive), Jack McLean Park (700 Paul Russell Road) and San Luis Mission Park (131 San Luis Road). Boxes serve as billboards for criminals driving through your neighborhood. Instead of leaving the boxes in front of your home for recycling, simply bring them to the designated cardboard-only receptacles. This will help deter potential break-ins.
Garbage and recycling containers should both be rolled to the curb for pickup by 6:30 a.m. on collection day, with both containers returned to the home no later than the day after collection. To look up collection dates for specific addresses, please visit Talgov.com. You can also view this information in the 2019 Customer Service Guide, which is being mailed to residential utility customers with an active garbage account and should be delivered soon. For more information, visit Talgov.com/YOU or call 891-4968.

Animal Service Center
The Animal Service Center (ASC) will be closed on Monday, Dec. 31, and Tuesday, Jan. 1. Normal hours will resume on Wednesday, Jan. 2, with the Center opening at 10:30 a.m. Customers needing more information, including photos of animals available for adoption, may visit Talgov.com/Animals or contact the Animal Service Center at 891-2950.

New Year’s Eve festivities can be unnerving for many animals. Here are some tips that will help your pet have a safe, enjoyable holiday.
- Keep your pet at home inside a sheltered, quiet area during holiday festivities. Leave a TV on to provide background noise.
- Don’t leave animals chained outside. A frightened animal can become entangled in a chain and get injured or break the chain and flee.
- Make sure your pet is wearing an ID tag and rabies tag, which is required by law. Having your animal microchipped is also an extremely effective means by which to identify them. Contact your family veterinarian or the Animal Service Center for more information about microchipping your pet. If you don't have an ID tag for your pet, you may pick up one for free at the ASC during normal business hours, but you must bring your pet with you! If you lose your pet during the holidays, make sure you check for it at the animal shelter immediately.
City-run Community Centers
Community centers operated by the City of Tallahassee Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Affairs Department will be closed on Monday, Dec. 31, and Tuesday, Jan. 1. Community centers will resume normal hours on Wednesday, Jan. 2. To learn more about the various community centers and what they offer, visit Talgov.com/Parks.
