14th Annual Lifelong Learning Extravaganza (L3X) Runs Sept. 5-22

August 02, 2023

Fall in Tallahassee ushers in a season of learning, including for active adults. The City of Tallahassee is proud to announce the return of the Tallahassee Senior Center's Lifelong Learning Extravaganza. L3X celebrates its 14th anniversary in September with a robust month of classes, tours, workshops, recreational activities, field trips and entertainment. The program runs Sept. 5-22 and offers unique educational opportunities for anyone 18 years and older.

The public is invited to learn more about L3X at preview parties on Monday, Aug. 14, from 10-11:30 a.m. and Tuesday, Aug. 15, from 5:30-7 p.m., at the Tallahassee Senior Center, 1400 N. Monroe Street. Attendees will be able to pick up a course catalog, meet instructors and enjoy refreshments. While the preview parties provide an overview of the L3X curriculum, they are not required for participation.

With more than 40 classes offered, participants can eXplore, eXamine and eXperience topics such as a space mission at the Challenger Learning Center, discovering Florida's coast, visiting the Panacea Picklearium or learning to make Alcohol Ink Jewelry. There's something for everyone! L3X wraps up with a luncheon on Friday, Sept. 22, with wildlife biologist and science educator Rebecca Means as featured speaker. Means is director of the Coastal Plains Institute in Crawfordville. Its mission is to preserve the biodiversity of the Coastal Plain of the southeastern United States.

L3X programs are held at various times of the day, including several in the evening to accommodate those who work during the day. Most classes will be in person, though a few will be virtual and some will be hybrid (in-person and virtual). While there are a couple of free offerings, most L3X classes and tours range from $7 to around $60. Full payment is required with registration, and there will be no refunds unless an activity is canceled. Early registration is encouraged since many classes fill quickly. Online registration opens for Tallahassee Senior Foundation members on Wednesday, Aug.16, at 8 a.m. Online registration opens for the general public on Friday, Aug. 18, at 8 a.m. Classes begin on Tuesday, Sept. 5.
