Reese Goad Selected as Tallahassee’s City Manager

Today, City Commissioners voted to appoint Reese Goad as the City of Tallahassee's City Manager. Goad has worked for the City for 18 years, most recently serving as the Interim City Manager since October 2017. During the last year, the City has made great gains as a result of efforts to reduce crime, invest in infrastructure and encourage a growing economy.

Prior, Goad served as the Deputy City Manager, providing executive oversight for Electric and Underground Utilities, Solid Waste, Business Services, Tallahassee International Airport, StarMetro, Golf Courses and Fleet Management.

"I am honored that the City Commission has selected me to serve as Tallahassee's City Manager," Goad said. "With the Commission's support, I am prepared to lead this organization into the future with a commitment to financial stability, high quality service delivery and an unequivocal standard of ethical decision making."

Goad will report directly to the City Commission. As City Manager, he will be responsible for maintaining the management functions of city government and administering the day-to-day operations. He will provide oversight of the City Commission meeting agenda process, working closely with the City Commission to establish long-term strategic plans, as well as short-term targets, to guide the operation of city government. He will be responsible for a total staff of nearly 3,000 employees and an annual budget of approximately $900 million, which includes both the operating and capital budgets.

Goad joined the City in 2000. He had previously held positions with the Florida Public Service Commission in the Bureau of Electric Regulation and Bureau of Conservation and System Planning. He serves on the board of the Florida Municipal Electric Association and is a member of the International City/County Management Association.

He is a native Floridian who graduated from Florida State University. He and his wife, Christen, have three children.

On July 11, the City Commission voted to expedite the City Manager hiring process. In June 2018, S. Renée Narloch & Associates was hired to conduct a nationwide search to fill the position. The recruitment process from July 16 to September 10 resulted in 31 applications received, three of which were recommended for interviews. Interviews were conducted by the City Commission on September 17.

The City's Human Resources department and the City Attorney's Office will negotiate a contract that will be brought before the City Commission for approval during its regular meeting on September 26.
