Learn Something New In-Person or Virtually with TLH Senior Center

13th Annual Lifelong Learning Extravaganza (L3X) Runs Sept. 6-23

August 01, 2022

Fall in Tallahassee ushers in a lot of learning, including for active adults. The City of Tallahassee is proud to announce the return of the Tallahassee Senior Center’s Lifelong Learning Extravaganza. L3X will celebrate its 13th anniversary in September with a month of classes, tours, workshops, field trips and entertainment. The program runs Sept. 6-23 and offers unique educational opportunities in-person and virtually for anyone 18 years and older.

The public is invited to learn more about L3X at preview parties on Monday, Aug. 8, from 10-11:30 a.m. and Tuesday, Aug. 9, from 5:30-7 p.m. at the Tallahassee Senior Center, located at 1400 N. Monroe Street. Attendees will be able to pick up a course catalog and meet instructors. While the preview parties provide an overview of the L3X curriculum, they are not required for participation. "This year we are offering some exciting new programs along with some of our old favorites" notes Lifelong Learning Coordinator, Maureen Haberfeld. "We have a very good variety of classes, tours, and events."

With more than 40 classes offered to help participants eXplore, eXamine and eXperience topics such as the archeology of brewing beer, fall foraging, genealogy, flavors of Cuba and ways of the Seminoles. Music, art, technology, history, science, travel and more – there’s something to interest everyone. L3X concludes with a luncheon on Friday, Sept. 23, with featured speaker archivist Lisa Keith-Lucas of the Camp Gordon Johnston World War II Museum in Carrabelle.

L3X programs are held at various times of the day, including several in the evening to accommodate those who work during the day. While there are a couple of free offerings, most L3X classes and tours range from $7 to around $50. Full payment is required with registration, and there will be no refunds unless an activity is canceled.

Early registration is encouraged since many classes fill quickly. General registration opens on Friday, Aug. 12, at 8 a.m. Classes begin on Tues., Sept. 6. To view the course catalog and register online, visit www.TallahasseeSeniorFoundation.org/L3X.

L3X is presented by Tallahassee Senior Services and Tallahassee Senior Center & Foundation, in partnership with Audiology Associates of North Florida, a Division of Tallahassee Ear, Nose & Throat. For more information about L3X, email maureen.haberfeld@talgov.com or call 850-891-4033.

Tallahassee Senior Services is part of the City of Tallahassee’s Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Affairs department. To stay in-the-know about this and other senior activities, visit Talgov.com/Seniors or like Tallahassee Senior Center on Facebook.
