TFLA for Business
The Tallahassee Future Leaders Academy (TFLA) summer youth employment program is an exciting and innovative summer program that provides community youth, as young as rising Sophomores, with the opportunity to gain paid work experience and professional development training and receive weekly mentoring from a supervisor.
From June 5 - July 28, 2023, TFLA employees work 24 hours a week; 16 hours at a job placement with mentorship and guidance from a caring manager and professional, and 8 hours taking part in TFLA training and events with peers. We need your help! The TFLA program is looking to recruit local businesses and employers who are willing to create jobs for youth this year. Interested employers are asked to:
- Provide job placement for TLFA participant(s) for 8 weeks, at least 16 hours a week
- Compensate TFLA participants a minimum wage salary ($11.00 per hour) during that period.
- Provide supportive work environment that assists operations and helps youth build skills.
In turn, the TFLA program will provide:
- Screening and background checks on all TFLA participants recommended to local employers.
- Pre-job training and professional development seminars for all TFLA participants.
- Opportunities for TFLA youth to receive industry recognized certifications.
- Financial literacy training and access to a savings account for all participants.
- Continuing communication with the employer during the program to assess the performance of TFLA participants.
Beyond providing a job for a TFLA participant, there are several other ways local businesses can partner with the TFLA Program:
- Sponsor a TFLA participant who can be employed at another location during the 6-week employment period.
- Sponsor a meal for participants during the 2-week training period.
- Provide workshop supplies and food.
