All cities have a variance process to address unusual circumstances that meet certain legal standards. The City of Tallahassee is proposing an ordinance to update its variance provisions. Potential topics include updating the hardship criteria and merging variances with deviations. Please use the pull down menus below to monitor progress on this project. The draft ordinance is posted below under the “Drafts of Variance Ordinance” menu, and a link to the first community meeting is provided under the "Community Meeting Dates" option. Please contact Bill Pable if you have any questions at 850-891-7044 (office), or at 850-445-8987 (cell).

- Draft Variance Ordinance
Please note that there are numerous references to the term “deviation” throughout the Code. The next draft of the variance ordinance will correct those additional citations from “deviation” to “variance”.

- Updated Draft Variance Ordinance
The December 3 version of the draft ordinance focused on only the variance hardship criteria. The December 28 version of the ordinance also changes the word "deviation" to "variance" at a variety of miscellaneous citations. The intent is to eliminate deviations and process everything as a variance.
