National Recognition Received for City of Tallahassee Budget
The City of Tallahassee received the Government Finance Officers Association's (GFOA's) Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for the current fiscal year. Earning this award reflects the City's steadfast commitment to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting.
"Receiving this recognition from GFOA following a comprehensive examination of the City's budget by a panel of independent reviewers speaks to the high caliber of work done by staff to ensure our community has clear, accurate and accessible fiscal information," City Manager Reese Goad said. "I could not be prouder of City staff and their continued commitment to be the national leader in the delivery of public service."
To receive the award, the City had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. These guidelines are designed to assess how well an entity's budget serves as a policy document, financial plan, operations guide and communications device. Budget documents must be rated "proficient" in all four categories, as well as in the 14 mandatory criteria within those categories, to receive the award. This is the 37th consecutive year the City has obtained this award.
The GFOA advances excellence in government finance by providing best practices, professional development, resources and practical research for more than 22,500 members and the communities they serve. GFOA award recipients have pioneered efforts to improve the quality of budgeting and provide an excellent example for other governments throughout North America.
