As part of its commitment to ensuring reliable service, the City of Tallahassee Underground Utilities and Public Infrastructure department is planning utility and infrastructure improvements along Seventh Avenue between Centerville Road and N. Gadsden Street. The water main replacement project will upgrade approximately 4,500 linear feet of existing water main. The existing sanitary sewer will be rehabilitated with a cured-in-place (CIPP) lining. The roadway reconstruction of approximately 80 linear feet of Cherry Street and Colonial Drive to improve the roadway connection to Seventh Avenue. The work will include adjusting the roadway profiles, curb and gutter, sidewalk and any affected driveways. The reconstruction will result in an improved connection for motorist while maintaining the existing pedestrian crossings.

The new water main and facilities will result in reduced maintenance activities, improved system capacity, increased fire protection, and continued reliable service for years to come.

The water replacement and roadway reconstruction project is slated to go to bid in August 2023. Once construction begins, it is anticipated to take approximately ten months to complete, barring unforeseen circumstances. The sewer cured-in-place lining began June 22, 2023, and is expected to be completed in two months.

During construction, the roadway will be reduced to a single travel lane; however, access to residences and businesses will be maintained. It is projected that closures will occur in sections as work takes place and will shift as sections are completed.

Customers along the corridor will experience intermittent water outages when the new water mains are tied into the existing system and when existing services are reconnected to new services. During construction, notice will be given in advance for planned outages, and the City and its contractor will make every effort to keep outages brief.

As the roadway improvements on Cherry Street and Colonial Drive progress, all or portions of several driveways may need to be reconstructed. Residents will be notified in advance if their driveway is impacted. If reconstruction is required, it may temporarily limit access to residents' driveways to allow the concrete to dry.

After the project improvements are completed, the roadway will be resurfaced, and all other areas disturbed by construction activities will be restored to existing or better condition.
