picture of Belle Vue Road

As part of its commitment to ensuring reliable utility service, the City of Tallahassee Underground Utilities and Public Infrastructure department is planning a water and sewer utility improvement project along Belle Vue Way to replace aging infrastructure.

The project will upgrade and upsize approximately 4,100 linear feet of existing water main and 3,600 feet of gravity sewer main. The new water and sewer facilities will result in reduced maintenance activities, improved system capacity, increased fire protection and continued reliable service for years to come. Additionally, the project will also include adding a missing section of sidewalk on the northern side of Belle Vue Way, immediately west of the intersection of Belle Vue Way and Ocala Road. The sidewalk will be constructed adjacent to 2010 Belle Vue Way. The project will include approximately 110 linear feet of sidewalk including ADA ramps, the addition of concrete curb and gutter, driveway modifications and drainage improvements to facilitate the addition of the sidewalk. Minor improvement to the City’s gas main will take place between Ausley and Ocala roads prior to the water and sewer improvements.

The project limits are shown on the map and run between Hayden and Ausley roads.

Following a competitive bidding process, the project has been awarded to Hale Contracting, Inc. of Midway. Construction is anticipated to commence in June 2023.

During construction, travel lanes may need to be fully closed within the work zone with detours; however, access to residences and businesses will be maintained. It is projected that closures will occur in sections as work takes place and will shift as sections are completed. After the water and sewer main improvements are completed, the roadway will be resurfaced, and all other areas disturbed by construction activities will be restored to existing or better condition.

Customers along the corridor will experience intermittent water outages when the new water mains are tied into the existing system and when existing services are reconnected to new services. During construction, notice will be given in advance for planned outages, and the City and its contractor will make every effort to keep outages brief.

This project represents the significant investment by the City toward maintaining and improving its water and sewer system.
