Career Criminal Unit
The Career Criminal Unit (CCU) is, by definition, responsible for the apprehension and intelligence gathering of career criminals in the Tallahassee area. The members of the CCU use technology, as well as, investigative field work to monitor, track and arrest sex offenders, sex predators, career offenders, DOC violent releasees and wanted persons known or believed to be in the Tallahassee area. The CCU is assigned to monitor persons and activities that may have criminal ramifications from a local to national setting. The CCU shall, through assertive interdiction, and investigative efforts enforce all current court sanctions and restrictions against persons deemed as serious habitual offenders. Members of CCU are part of the United States Marshal's North Florida Violent Fugitive Task Force and are responsible for locating persons with violent felony warrants.
Crime Stoppers
The Tallahassee Police Department actively works with Big Bend Crime Stoppers to solve crime in our community. Participants in the Crime Stoppers program never have to give their name or appear in court. All we want is your information.
Crime Stoppers is a nonprofit organizations that promotes a partnership between the media, law enforcement and the community. Big Bend Crime Stoppers was started more than twenty years ago by a group of concerned citizens and the Tallahassee Police Department. Big Bend Crime Stoppers covers all six counties of the Big Bend, Franklin, Gadsden, Jefferson, Liberty, Leon, and Wakulla. People in the community with information about a crime can call our number at 574-TIPS (8477) or toll free at 1-888-876-TIPS (8477). These calls are not recorded and we do not have Caller ID. When information is given the caller receives a code number. The caller can use this code number to receive information on the tip. If an arrest is made based on information provide by the caller, the caller is eligible for a reward. The board of directors, made up of citizens votes on the reward amount at the monthly board meeting . The caller goes to the drive thru of a designated bank and provided the teller the code number. The teller then sends out cash. WE NEVER KNOW THE IDENTITY OF THE CALLER.
