The Northwood Centre site is undergoing redevelopment by the City of Tallahassee. Sitting on approximately 29.5 acres, the site is bordered by North Monroe Street, North Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Tharpe Street. A key component within this redevelopment is construction of the new headquarters facility for the Tallahassee Police Department. Additionally, the site presents opportunities for new green space, community amenities and other economic development projects.
Hundreds of residents have submitted comments and feedback on the project. This community input is being used to guide long-term master planning efforts for the area, and continued community participation will ensure redevelopment evolves to best serve residents.
Phase One: Roadways and Site Infrastructure
The Northwood project moves into the infrastructure phase in February 2023. This will include construction of the new central roadway, utilities, stormwater, street lights, sidewalks, landscaping and parking to support the overall property.
The bulk of this infrastructure work should be complete in fall 2023.
Future Actions
Work to finalize the design of the Tallahassee Police Department headquarters building continues. Once design is complete, the associated construction documents will be prepared so that construction can begin. The construction phase is anticipated to take at least a year.
Additionally, the master plan for the full acreage and future development of its parcels is still in development.
Community engagement has been central to the project and the master planning effort. In addition to public meetings and workshops, the City is gathering community ideas and input on a continual basis through this project page. If If you would like to provide feedback now, please send us an email at NorthwoodProject@Talgov.com.
