Food has served as an inspiration to artists for thousands of years, from images of game animals painted on prehistoric cave walls to ancient mosaics of fruit and fish on the floors of Pompeiian villas.

Seventeenth century Dutch painters masterfully rendered sumptuous scenes of tables laid with fine linens and serving ware, overflowing with delicacies. In contrast, Dorthea Lang's Depression era photographs illustrate the intersection of humanity, hunger, and the American agricultural industry. Whether it's pop-art soup cans or an impressionistic basket of apples, food related artworks are embedded in our culture.

The Yum exhibition, presented by COCA, celebrates and explores the role that food plays in our lives. This multi-media show is a banquet of 55 artworks, highlighting culinary themes including images of edibles, food preparation, farming practices, cooking and dining scenes, and table settings. A feast for the eyes, the Yum exhibition will provide food for thought and nourishment for the creative soul.

The 44 participating artists are:

One in six people face hunger in America – including more than 107,000 here in the Big Bend region. Take action to fight hunger in your community!
