Cross-Connection Control Rules and Regulations (Manual) Revisions

As a City water service customer who owns a backflow prevention assembly, you may be affected by the new requirements.

The City of Tallahassee Cross-Connection Control Program was established to protect the public potable water supply system, our community's drinking water, by isolating potential hazards through the use of approved backflow prevention methods.

The City's Cross-Connection Control Ordinance was adopted in 1990 with no major modifications since its adoption. The proposed modifications in the program are to remain in compliance with the revisions to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection rule 62-555.360(2) F.A.C.

In addition, the City is proposing a new service to help customers comply with the required backflow assembly testing. The new service allows residential customers the option of having a City contractor test the backflow assembly. The fees for this service will be charged to the City of Tallahassee water account customer associated with the backflow assembly address. The service will remain in effect until the customer cancels the service. See more information on the Opt-In testing program or to help answer additional questions, look at our frequently asked questions page.

A list of major modifications to the proposed Rules and Regulations for Backflow Prevention and Cross-Connection Control can be found at Summary of the revisions to the Manual.

The City of Tallahassee Underground Utilities Department will hold two public meetings to summarize Proposed Rules and Regulations for Backflow Prevention and Cross-Connection Control (Manual) and to take public input.
