What is composting?
Composting is a natural process that turns organic material into a dark rich substance often called topsoil. Compost is a wonderful fertilizer for your yard and plants, and is a great way to turn your kitchen and yard waste in one of nature's best mulches and soil additives. It does NOT cause thatching. Best of all, compost helps you save money because of the decreased need to purchase commercial fertilizers. Using compost improves soil structure, texture, and aeration and increases the soil's water-holding capacity. A perfect time to begin composting is in the fall, and is an environmentally conscious alternative to bagging up your leaves and having them removed with your trash.
