Our humane education programs teach students how to be responsible citizens. From caring for their families' pets, to understanding the role of animal control in our community, our programs are designed to inform, inspire and empower the members our community to get involved with animals in our community!

Responsible Pet Ownership Course
Want to learn more about caring for your pet? Attend an upcoming Responsible Pet Ownership Class. The course is sponsored by Pets Ad Litem, a local animal advocacy group, and is a free, three-hour information program designed to help pet owners learn how to properly care for their animals and to increase awareness of the local laws governing animal care and treatment. The course covers a wide variety of topics including veterinary care, traveling safely with your pet, shelter, nutrition, humane tethering and more. Pre-Veterinary Volunteer Program
Our veterinary volunteer program was designed for pre-veterinary students, and other individuals with an interest in the veterinary profession, to allow hands-on experience. As a Veterinary Volunteer you will get to assist our veterinary team with our in-house surgery program. Primary duties include:

• Surgical pack sterilization and preparation
• Laundering the surgical linens
• Assisting with patient preparation for and recovery from surgery
• Other duties may include assisting with animal exams, diagnostics and treatments
• Due to the nature of shelter medicine, the exact activities will vary by season

Veterinary Student Externship Program
We offer a formal veterinary student externship program designed for third and fourth year students at AVMA-accredited veterinary schools. The primary purpose of the externship is to expose veterinary students to the many aspects of shelter medicine. Major objectives are to acquaint veterinary students with disease prevention and control principals for animal shelter populations, explore the interaction of public policy and domestic animal health, and familiarize students with high-volume, high quality spay/neuter practices.
